Our Story
270Surgical has delivered the first and only 270-degree laparoscopic camera system that employs patented Visual Intelligence (V.I.) to expand and to enhance the minimally invasive surgery (MIS) experience. 

The SurroundScope platform aims to improve safety, increase efficiency, enable new procedures, and reduce costs.

Clinical data accessed by SurroundScope V.I. aims to fuel future OR algorithms and AI platforms, acting as an important conduit to enhanced patient outcomes.

CEO and Founder

Avi Levy is the CEO and Founder of 270Surgical. For the past three decades, Avi has had tremendous success as an inventor, entrepreneur, investor, and a high-level executive within the Med-Device and Telecommunication industries.

In 2010 was the founder and CEO of Peer Medical which developed an innovative colonoscopy system. While at Peer, Avi spearheaded a merger with Endochoice, and helped take the collective companies public (Endochoice, NYSE: GI).

Prior to Peer Medical, Mr. Levy was appointed as the CEO of Sightline Technologies, which developed a comprehensive disposable solution for colonoscopy. Mr. Levy led an acquisition by Stryker for $150M. Mr. Levy continued for 3 years as VP of R&D and GM of Stryker Israel for 3 years and established an innovation center of 80 employees in Israel.

Avi holds a dual degree in Mathematics and Physics from the Hebrew University, a Mechanical Practical Engineering Degree from ORT Jerusalem and a Business Management certification from Bar-Ilan University.

Chad Croasdale, President and Chief Commercial Officer

Chad Croasdale

President and Chief Commercial Officer

Croasdale brings more than 20 years of experience in HealthCare and Medical Devices. He has 10 years of Full P&L Management at Stryker where he served at VP & General Manager for the Communications Business Unit, one of the fastest growing businesses at Stryker. In this capacity, he served as a member of the Commercial Steering Committee for Stryker Endoscopy, a powerhouse in the rigid Endoscopic Market. He brings relevant expertise in the commercialization of products, market strategy and operational execution. Prior to joining Stryker, Chad was a clinician / center-manager for NovaCare, an outpatient provider of Physical and Occupational Therapy.

Croasdale holds a B.A. from Hobart College (Psychology), and a M.S. from Widener University (Physical Therapy).

Dr. Shirley Shapira, VP Clinical affairs

Dr. Shapira has honed her expertise in Endoscopic Clinical Trials over 12 years of experience in the industry. Prior to 270Surgical she directed the clinical trials for Motus GI, MetaCure, and Stryker Israel. In addition, she served as a consultant for clinical trials in various companies, gaining an experience in a variety of therapeutic area including Endoscopy, Diabetes, Glaucoma, Acute Decompensated Heart Failure (ADHF), Stuttering, Thoracic Fluid, Thrombectomy, Dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain) and Alopecia (hair loss).

Dr. Shapira holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, from the Technion, Israel.

VP of Research and Development

Moshe has over 15 years of experience in medical device R&D, predominantly within the field of Endoscopy. He has successfully managed multi-disciplinary global R&D and engineering teams for companies including Stryker, Angioslide and Endochoice. He has relevant experience leading teams of people in mechanical engineering, software development and optics as has developed vast valuable expertise within medical device regulation.

Moshe holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.

Ari Fried

Director of Business Development

Ari is a veteran executive, investor and board director with over 18 years of experience in the start-up industry. He is spearheading the fundraising and business development efforts for 270Surgical. Ari is the founder and managing director of Cider Investments, a family office with investments in biotech, med-tech, agri-tech, hi-tech, as well as in venture capital funds. In addition to 270Surgical, Ari has served in executive roles at Biowise, Triventures, Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation, and Ernst & Young, Israel.

Ari earned a degree in B.S. in Biology and Physics from the University of Toronto.

Golan Salman

Senior Director of Mechanical Engineering & Product Strategy

Golan brings more than 19 years of R&D experience in medical devices with a heavy emphasis in the Endoscopy field and Opto-mechanical design. He has managed multi-disciplinary global R&D and engineering teams for more than 13 years for start-ups and large companies including Endochoice, and Stryker. Golan was also Co-founder of Peer Medical prior to it merging with Endochoice.

Golan holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Officers School of Acre.

Guy Blair

Chief Financial Officer

Guy is a Certified Public Accountant, with over 20 years of experience in accountancy, tax and financial management. He spent 3 years at Deloitte prior to opening a boutique accounting firm which employs 15 professionals comprised of CPAs, tax consultants and bookkeepers.
Guy has served as CFO in medical devices companies under the management of Avraham Levy (Peer Medical Ltd, 270 Surgical Ltd) since 2009.
Mr. Blair is a 1997 graduate of the Business Management School of the College for Management , and obtained his Israeli Certified Public Accountants License in 1999.

Mr. Hillel joined the team in 2020 bringing more than 20 years of experience in medical device industry.

He has successfully built and developed manufacturing and operations functions in startups as well as public companies such as Remon Medical, Topspin Medical, Cadent and Align Technology.

He has expertise in Production, Planning, Purchasing, Customer Support and Service Logistic with a vast expertise within medical device regulation.

He earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and a M.A in Industrial Management from Bar Ilan University.

Dennis

BS in Accounting

Dennis has over 35 years of diversified experience in the medical device industry. He started his career with KPMG and then developed a 23 year career with CR Bard as VP of Finance, Dir of Manufacturing and VP of Marketing. Dennis was also a VP and General Manager for the GI division of Conmed Corporation and the COO of 3 successful start-ups where he worked closely with the inventors, clinical KOL’s and manufacturers to refine and produce their designs for market acceptance.
He has significant experience with the regulatory processes and manufacturing requirements for the FDA and ISO.
Dennis has a BS in Accounting from Mt St Mary’s University and an MBA in Marketing.

FAQ
What is Visual Intelligence and how does it help surgeons?
Visual Intelligence (V.I.) is the camera image you see on the monitor and serves as the backbone for all the other technologies (A.I., Robotics etc...) that help comprise the comprehensive platform called Digital Surgery. By increasing the amount of information visible to surgeons on the monitor, you not only provide caregivers with more information, but you also augment the impact of other complimentary technologies such as A.I.
How do you make MIS procedures safer?
Surgeons who have used Surroundscope immediately point to the fact that they have been blinded by tunnel vision ever since Laparoscopy was introduced to the market. If something detrimental happens to the patient OUTSIDE the surgeon's Field-of-View, the injury may not be detected and remediated during the procedure. By using a 270 degree FoV, we reduce the likelihood that an injury will not be seen during the procedure. 
What problems do you address with 270Surgical? 
The 270Surgical Surroundscope platform mitigates 3 long-standing challenges facing Laparoscopists. We increase what has always been a highly restrictive Field-of-View from 70 degrees to 270 degrees. At the same time we eliminate the nuisance of fogging and greatly reduce the impact of surgical smoke on the visual acuity for caregivers.
What engineering obstacles did you overcome?
Over the past 5 years, the team has successfully assembled 3 cameras at the distal end of a standard sized Laparoscope. The design is incredibly well-conceived, and protected by a multitude of patents.
How have you tested the scope in use?
We have performed more than 80 cases on human patients in addition to a variety of labs on non-human specimines. The scope has been trialed by more than 20 surgeons in 3 countries and is receiving universally rave reviews.
How does 270Surgical help to reduce OR costs?
Our early data suggests a marked reduction in procedure time. This is not only better for the patient, but also reduces cost to the hospital.
Discuss the necessary training for new users?
There is virtually no-learning curve for the SurroundScope, as standard equipment is used, and the techniques remain the same. The caregivers simply operate as they did before and benefit from the improved Field-of-View, lack of fog and remediation of smoke / plume. We will in-service all users prior to trialing the product, and have found that surgeons adapt to the additional features within the first case they perform.
Which regulatory certifications do you hold?
We have identified a handful of distributors and are being very selective as we engage with them along we way. We seek to find more who have expertise in Laparoscopic Visualization.
Which manufacturers is 270Surgical SurroundScope compatible?
The Surroundscope platform resides along-side all of the Laparoscopic manufacturers equipment, and is complimentary to the services they currently provide.
